Just a few miles south of San Francisco begins - or rather ends - probably the most beautiful part of Highway 1, which in this area is called Pacific Coast Highway or PCH, for short.
This special road is the longest public road in California and probably the one with the most views of the Pacific, which constantly sends wafts of mist towards the road, undulating alongside the coast. This coastal highway does not cover feet in altitude in the literal sense but follows the rugged cliff landscape between cypresses and beautiful little houses - as does our tour -, constantly changing between mountain and valley, brilliant sun and humid fog. This tour leads towards Monterey and gets us in the right mood for the17 Mile Drive Tour which starts on the famous circuit in Monterey.

The Monument Valley, like the Valley of the Gods, consists of so-called Buttes and Mesas. These “table mountains” dominate this particular landscape.
Just imagine one of these rock giants, a rust-coloured, flat plain, with its almost vertical rock edge, suddenly towering several hundred feet overhead. And then imagine that someone hits upon the idea to blast a road, which has hairpin bends and dangerous passages, right into the vertical rock face. This is exactly the Moki Dugway.
An adventurous gravel road leads from the Valley of the Gods to a view point over the Monument Valley.
