Every year, Radstadt, in the Salzburg region, is the start and finishing point of the world-renowned Amadè cycling marathon.
On this DVD we follow the beautiful but demanding (with 5033 ft in altitude 56.5 mile-long) cycling marathon tour.
Start and finish is, in our case, the junction where the “short” and “long” tours diverge, namely Niedernfritz in the quarter Hüttau (at 2464 ft above sea level) in the Pongau, which lies south of Salzburg.
On the Katschberg road, we firstly ride 8.7 miles on a slight descent through the beautiful Fritztal to Bischofshofen (1785 ft), which is known throughout the world as one of the venues of the annual Four Hills Tournament.
We continue on a relatively flat stretch of road to St. Johann in the Pongau (1854 ft) and afterwards with inclines up to 9% up to Wagrain (2749 ft).
The way to Altenmarkt and Radstadt (2743 ft) leads via the Wagrainer Höhe (3127 ft).
Subsequently, a sweat-inducing altitude of 889 ft has to be overcome on the next 2.5 miles, with inclines of more than 11%, before we reach Löbenau, at 3632 ft above sea level.
After a relaxing and attractive descent to the small village of Pichl (2526 ft) comes the next challenge, the steep ascent up to Vorberg (3573 ft), approximately 2 miles long, but with an incline of consistently between 6% and 13%.
Overwhelming views of the rock faces of the Dachstein massif and the surrounding mountains accompany us now on the remainder of the tour to Ramsau am Dachstein (3927 ft).
Approximately 16 miles have still to be overcome, on a moderate stretch of road via Filzmoos (3468 ft) and Eben in the Pongau (2805 ft), before we have once more reached Niedernfritz at 2464 ft above sea level, our target and starting point.
