The most demanding stretch of road the Death Valley, known as a hot shimmering salt pan, has to offer, is situated in the west, where it stops at the foot hills of the Rocky Mountains.

Here we find a rare combination of valley that lies below the sea level and mountain chain of more than 6560 ft.

You can climb the unique stretch of road which leads you right there. Steadily ascending and merciless, this tour leads uphill with few breaks. To begin with we pass landscapes quickly changing between dunes and steppe, in order to follow the initially dead straight road to the mountains where it meanders around rocks and abysses and we have to fight for every foot in altitude.

From this high point we can see the whole of the High Speed Trail which will lead us downhill by a similar difference in altitude. In doing so, we can almost see the destination, which is many miles away, because the air is so dry.

So, take plenty to drink and go ahead!
