Col du Telegraphe and Col du Galibier

From St.-Michel-de-Maurienne via the Col du Telegraphe, Col du Galibier to Col du Lautaret

The Col du Galibier, which, at 8678 ft, is the fifth highest asphalted mountain pass in the Alps, is known throughout the world, predominantly because of the Tour de France.

We begin our demanding tour (comprising 27 miles and 6234 ft in altitude) in St.-Michel-de-Maurienne at 2405 ft above sea level.

On the well surfaced road we firstly ride 7 miles with inclines of between 8% and 9% up to Col du Telegraph (5151 ft).

The following descent to Valloire (4606 ft) allows us to regain strength for the approaching 10,6 mile long ascent to Col du Galibier.

On an average incline of 7% we ride approximately 5.5 miles steadily upwards through a vast and grass-covered valley.

At the end of the valley begins the steeper part of this tour, with inclines of more than 12%.

In s-bends, the road meanders the remaining 5 miles through a magnificent high mountain landscape up to the pass summit.

The following 5 mile-long descent to the Col du Lautaret (6752 ft) with a beautiful view is the end of this wonderful tour.
