The Route des Crêtes (“Ridge Line Road“) in the Vosges is one of the most beautiful, panoramic roads in the world.

We begin our 46 mile long tour in Cernay (971 ft), in the southern Vosges.

In the beginning, the road (D431) winds, in numerous bends, with an average gradient of 7%, up to the Col de Herrenfluh (2740 ft) - the first pass of this tour.

Riding steadily up and down via the Col du Silberloch and Hartmannswiellerkopf, we reach the Col Amic.

Here the approximately 5 mile long climb up to the Grand Ballon (4400 ft) begins. The average ascent is almost 8%.

Now follows a relaxing 4.5 mile long descent to Le Markstein (3885 ft).

14 miles - with a beautiful view of the Vosges - have to be overcome on the road to the Col de la Schlucht (1.139 m), which becomes increasingly hilly.

We ride the last 17 miles to Col du Calvaire (3720 ft) and back to the Col de la Schlucht on an even stretch of road.
