Death Valley

is not more deadly than other deserts of this region. It is rather more famous for other things.

It is the hottest site on earth and holds the record to be the deepest point of the USA with 262.47 ft below sea level. Furthermore, it has a huge subterranean reservoir which supplies cities like L.A. with drinking water.

When we start our tour we notice at first the extremely good view which is due to the average humidity of 8%. Death Valley, in which no one has ever really ment to have died of thirst, obtains its scenical attraction out of the particoloured rock and stone formations, which stand in contrast to the snow-white salt lakes.

This three-hour route is characterized by long climbs and downhill slopes. Not before you turn up your heating and cycle at a room temperature between 42 and 49°C will you be able to have the right feeling for this furnace, which is used by many car producers as a test route. If you think there is not much to see in a desert you are wrong.

However, most of what you see is not alive. Instead you can watch gigantic whirlwinds dashing over the steppe as fast as a car, or you can count the telegraph poles at the side of the road.
