Our starting point for this wonderful but demanding cycle tour with 14% ascent and 16 km to the Kaiser Franz Josefs Höhe (2,450m) is the village of Heiligenblut (1,301m).

This romantic and sporting mountain village of St. Vinzenz with its landmark the pilgrimage church is near the foot of the Großglockner in the national park of HOHE TAUERN in the north western part of Kärnten.

The road through the high alps of Großglockner that you will now ride on was built in 1935 and is the most fantastic of all alpine crossings.

It leads through a wonderful natural landscape. You ride through all the climatic and vegetation zones between Austria and the Arctic. In the end you stand in front of Austria's highest mountain, the Großglockner, with a height of 3,798m.

The fantastic view to the Großglockner massif and to the apparently endless Pasterzen glacier lets you forget all your previous exertions.
